Connecting to a virtual private network or VPN is very simple on a Windows 10 computer. It gives you instant access to a more secure connection so that you can use the network for work or personal use as applicable. Below is how you can configure Windows VPN manually.

Creating a VPN Profile on Windows 10

First, you will need to create a VPN profile on your Windows 10 computer to connect to a virtual private network. If you are using your company’s work network, then contact the IT department for the VPN settings details. If you have subscribed to a VPN service for personal use, then download the app for the VPN service from the Microsoft Store and check the VPN connection settings on its website.

    • When you have the details at hand, click on the Windows 10 Start button, select Settings, and go to Network & Internet. Now click on the VPN tab in the open window and choose Add a VPN connection.
    • In the next screen, select Windows (built-in) for the VPN provider. Then enter the desired name for your VPN service in the Connection name

    • Move on to the Server name or address section and enter the connection address for the VPN server you have. Then select the type of your VPN connection in the VPN type You can check the VPN website or ask your company’s IT team for the information.
    • When done, select the kind of sign-in credentials you will be using in the Type of sign-in info This can be a username and password, a one-time password, a certificate, or your company’s smart card. If you are using a third-party VPN service, then enter the username and password in the designated boxes.

Click on the Save button and your VPN profile will be ready to use. You can edit the VPN connection info or configure additional settings like a proxy in the Advanced options pane as required.
